I was a big shopper at Best Buy, I spent thousands of dollars there yearly.
Until about 2 years ago.
Best Buy had a good price on the Internet Satellite. I asked them a few questions verifying this is not the AOL one (there are a few different models out there). Note Best Buy is a good hour drive from my house one way. I went out of my way to shop there. With that said I got the satellite hooked it all up it takes hours to align the disk, then you must call the satellite company to activate the dish. I called to active it and they then explained that Best Buy was to give me paper work to fill out there in the store and I'll have to return there to fill it out. So an hour drive later I get there, no one knows what I'm talking about. I was lucky enough to find someone that speaks half good English to understand what I was talking about. They asked me to return the following day when the manager is in. So I returned the next day, got the paper work all filled out.
Returned home called the satellite company again, they said "oh you have the AOL dish, contact AOL". Unhooked everything that took hours to align went back to the store, after over an hour of explaining, I got it exchanged with the one I wanted in the first place I was on my way with the correct satellite. Spend hours aligning the new disk. The satellite worked but it cost me over six hours of driving because of Best Buy plus 5 hours of install time adding the two. But the story isn't over. That day I got the correct dish I bought some software. What I failed to realize is in type .02 font (really small) it stated "addtional fee required". I didn't see it because I didn't have an industrial strength magnifier with me at the time. I returned to the store now going on 7 hours of driving time because of issues with Best Buy and their products. I explain to the Customer Service Clerk that this software requires additional fees to use it, it doesn't say that anywhere on the box (playing dumb). The clerk then pulls out a magnify glass looks over the box and said, it states it clearly right here. She would not let me return it so I asked to see a manager. The manager then stated it was marked on the box, I should read the box next time. I then asked him how this was fair, She used a magnify glass to find it, and you needed her help to point it out to you. You wouldn't have seen it either. He just said well there's nothing I can do for you read the box next time. I then asked him to bring up my record on the computer of the things I bought in the past, he did and it showed that I spent over $2000 dollars there in the last three months. I then said as you can see I shop here a lot, if no one here can side with me on this and wants to screw me over for their enjoyment I'm not setting foot in any Best Buy again. He just smiled and went over the reading the box line. I told him where he could put the box and went home. I wrote an e-mail, send in a letter and faxed it to the headquarters about my story. No reply from any of them.
It's been over two years since that day and I'll never set foot in a Best Buy again. I hope the $30 dollar software was worth my yearly spending of thousands of dollars there.
